October 16 - Servanthood

Mark 10:43-45 43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Being in ministry to me is being of service to others in love, and there is no one that could be a better example than Jesus of true ministry. Any true leader will always lead by example. Servanthood is not just about doing the act, but an attitude of being an example of Christ. I say this because serving in church itself, we are serving our brethren but when I serve outside the church, I am then being Christlike to non-believers and therefore pointing them to Jesus. Serving others is the very essence of ministry and regardless of our position in our church, whether Pastor, teacher, counselor, head of a ministry or someone who holds no position but just a lay person, every Christian is called to ministry for the glory of God. Unfortunately, many will miss the calling God has on their lives and not step out of their comfort zones to grasp all that Father has for them, but if they are truly serving God by serving others with pure intentions, they are ministering as Jesus ministered.
