October 22 - Harvest
October 3, 2024 5:03 PM
John 4:35 “Don’t say there is four months until harvest, Behold I say to you, lift your eyes and look on the fields; for they are already white, ready to harvest.
Preparing a field for planting takes time. First, we clear the land, plow the soil, furrow the rows, then plant the seed. Then we water, weed and wait. Waiting time is hard. Before the seed sown sprouts and breaks the soil, we are tempted to dig to see if anything is happening. Once the fruit of harvest begins to grow, we are tempted to pick them early. But it takes patience. The time comes we must get off the porch because it is time to harvest. If we don’t, the fruit will spoil on the vine or animals will come and consume our harvest.
When it comes to harvesting souls, I fear that for many, we expect them to come to Jesus at our first presentation, then often once they do accept Jesus we expect spiritual maturity. Beloved, we must be patient. It often takes time for someone to process the seed we have sown in their hearts; it takes time to continue watering that seed with our prayer and weeding it with an answer from God’s Word for questions they may have that would choke out the seed. Eventually harvest time comes. Perhaps it is time to get off the porch (out of the church walls) and reap the harvest, and if we do not, then much of it may rot on the vine.
Today there is unrest and divisions as the eternal enemy of mankind is sowing discord, hate and violence in our world, nation and families. God has called us to be ministers of reconciliation. Our lives are to represent our relationship with Jesus, if the enemy steals our peace, the lost take notice. We have an opportunity to speak into the lives of those that are in turmoil, and live hopeless lives. There is a great opportunity for harvest of souls when they are in despair. Yes, the fields are white, we simply must lift up our eyes and seize the opportunity to reach them with a message of HOPE and Peace.
