October 7 - Financial Stewardship
October 3, 2024 4:37 PM
The word ‘steward’ means a manager of someone else’s financial affairs or possessions. As faithful stewards of God’s blessings, we are called to use our finances in the ways that God directs us. Matthew 6:19-21 tells us to manage our money wisely, to be generous and willing to share with others, and to remember that our ultimate treasure is in heaven, not on earth. Everything we have is God’s. He gives seed to the sower as well as our talents and gifts for our jobs. Psalms 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.” God is the source of all we’ve got. We are stewards of God’s money, not owners of it. When we tithe, give offerings or give to help the poor at his direction, we’re saying “God, you are my source, not me and I’m showing you that I honestly believe you and I give because this is what you told me to do. I trust that you will take care of me.”
Let’s be of the mindset that we are His stewards. It isn’t our money, but his and we will trust him and do what HE tells us.
